Mission
Advocacy
Lambda Alliance is an influential voice in the university community. Working with administration, faculty, and other student organizations, we ensure that the concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students are represented. Lambda has also participated in state and national events, such as the Atlanta Pride march, the Atlanta AIDSWalk, and the Millennium March on Washington.
Education
Lambda Alliance sponsors a wide variety of programs throughout the year to educate the university community about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues. These include Diversity Awareness Week at Georgia, our annual National Coming Out Day activities, and other special events.
In addition, members are well-informed on current legislation and other pertinent issues concerning lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer rights. One of our most popular services is the Speaker’s Bureau, a panel discussion group which is available to any university or Athens organization or class. Residence halls, sororities, and English and sociology classes are some recent examples of groups that have utilized the Bureau.
Support
Lambda Alliance offers a safe environment for people at all stages of coming out. Aside from our weekly meetings, we sponsor several social events each semester, including dances, movie nights, and parties. Lambda also provides information to its members about services available to them at UGA and in Athens.
